Sewage sludge disposal
Our challenge
INTEC Engineering GmbH has experience and technologies for the innovative thermal treatment, disposal and economic use of biogenic, polluted sludges and residues.
The disposal and recycling concept is based on the combination of sewage sludge drying with subsequent thermal disposal through combustion in the fluidized bed.
The overall system resulting from this combination does not emit any environmentally harmful substances into the air or soil during the process.
No additional energy in the form of fuel is required to dry the sludge and wet residues and burn them. Depending on the calorific value and degree of drying of the sewage sludge, the entire process is designed to be energy self-sufficient.
Industry sectorsOptionally, it is also possible for the design of the sewage sludge plant to provide for partial electricity generation and/or for the vapors produced during drying to be thermally disposed of by injecting them into the fluidized bed furnace.
Sewage sludge disposal
Sewage sludge drying
Capacities for sewage sludge incineration are regionally limited. INTEC offers sewage sludge drying systems so that municipal wastewater treatment plant operators can continue to use their sewage sludge in an ecologically sensible and economical way.
The dried sewage sludge can be stored and can be used as additional fuel, for example in waste incineration or in lime and cement works.
Pre-thickened, but still liquid, sewage sludge from sewage treatment plants is usually reduced to a water content of 60 - 80 % using mechanical sludge dewatering. This is followed by thermal drying.
With the help of thermal sludge drying, the water bound in the sludge is evaporated to a residual water content of 10 - 20 %.
In addition to the drying systems available on the market such as: disc, INTEC offers so-called contact dryers for thin-film, belt and fluidized bed dryers.
These contact dryers consist of counter-rotating double-walled screws which are heated by thermal oil or steam.
Sewage sludge disposal
Sewage sludge incineration plants
The disposal of municipal sewage sludge is currently preferred through a combination of thermal drying and downstream incineration.
The fluidized bed combustion technology from INTEC takes special account of the degree of drying and the calorific value of the sewage sludge in order to enable an energetically self-sufficient combustion process.
Furthermore, the staged combustion in the fluidized bed causes a significant decrease in the NOx concentration in the exhaust gas.
Since sewage sludge contains large amounts of phosphorus and phosphorus is an essential building block of life, it makes sense to recover the phosphorus contained in sewage sludge. INTEC offers solutions for this.
