Pulp and paper industry
An energy-intensive industry
The paper and pulp industry is concerned with the production of paper, cardboard and pulp, which serves as the raw material for various paper products. The preparation of raw materials (felling, debarking and chipping of wood), pulp extraction, paper production and finishing as well as recycling require considerable amounts of process energy and water.
Heat and steam generation are necessary in all stages of production, be it in the
- mechanical pulping of the wood chips,
- chemical removal of lignin and subsequent bleaching or
- mixing pulp with water and additives,
- sheet formation on a wire,
- dewatering by press rolls and
- drying by heated cylinders or belts, smoothing and finishing of the paper products.
Technologies such as INTEC-thermal oil heater and steam systems, waste heat boilers, indirect steam generators, pressurised condensate boilers and fluidised bed combustion systems are integral to the efficiency and sustainability of the industry.
